There were many different versions to this night - I'll tell mine, of course: So after a fun last night on the Lake, playing games and eating smores, we all finally settle down, set up our beds ang lay down for the night. My eyes had been killing me for some reason all that day so I had taken my contacts out for the night earlier. I didn't bring my glasses, something I will never forget on another trip again! So I couldn't see a thing. Aside from that, I had hurt my ears somehow jumping off the top of the house boat swimming earlier that day, too. So I had a huge headache and was SO ready for bed! We knew it was supposed to be stormy this last night, but it had not been bad at all so far. So we all lay down to go to sleep. I'm such a pansy, I usually lay there for a while anyway, thinking about anything and everything. Well, this night I instantly start thinking about a storm coming. I start thinking about how scary it would be to wake up in the middle of the night in the middle of the lake if the anchors were to break lose because of the waves. I tell myself that's a rediculour fear and close my eyes to go to sleep. Litterally ten seconds after I'm thinking all this, I hear my dad get up and look out the window. He then says, "We're turning." Jordan sits up as fast as a rocket and asks him what?! My dad says again, "We're turning!" All the men in the room jump up, running all different directions to wake up other men, throw on shoes and run outside to re-anchor the boat. Yes - the anchors had broken loose because of the waves, just like I had feared. A couple of the anchors were still intact so we weren't just floating away, but we were turning so quickly that we were about to hit my dad's nice power-boat and my brother's brand new Jet-Skiis! So while the men are running wild, all the women are sitting there, feeling hopeless and nervous. I felt so bad for my little sister - she had already fallen asleep and is always a little confused when she's woken up and she was really nervous. I couldn't see a THING because I had taken my contacts out, so I admit that I was pretty freaked out, too! It actually helped me, though, to sit there with my little sister and have to comfort her and tell her everything would be just fine. Obviously, inside I knew everything would be fine - I was just nervous because I seriously couldn't see ANYTHING! They were all looking out the windows and could see the shore and the men - I just saw black! :o( After about a half an hour of the men working hard on shore and the girls goofing off with the camera inside, we were told to file out onto shore. Again, I was freaked out, not being able to see a thing! My brother-in-law, Jeremy, was the only one that stayed on-board - he backed the boat up out into the water and then drove full speed toward shore to better "dock", I guess, the boat on shore! It was kinda scary not being able to see anything except the blurry light of a boat heading full-speed toward you!!! Of course, full-speed for houseboats IS only 4 mph - but it was still nerve-racking! :o) After the boat was re-docked, the girls went back onboard to goof off some more while the men were busy re-anchoring the boat for another half an hour! Our tough men and my buff hubby picked up HUGE rocks and dropped them right on top of the anchors, hoping that would keep them down all night! They then came back onboard, soaked and tired! We took a couple pictures of our buff men and then went back to bed! Of course, I worried all night that it would happen again! I had memorized where the mountains were out the window so all throughout the night I could look out and make sure we were in the same place. The storm didn't worsen at all the rest of the night and we stayed put! Thank goodness! :o) The next morning, Jordan told me that he had also memorized where the mountains were in the window! :o) I'm just glad this was our last night there instead of earlier in the trip - I would've been so freaked out every night if this had happened earlier!!! :o)
